Bright Minds Whyte Ave Daycare adheres to the Principles and Matters to be Considered stated in the Alberta Early Learning and Child Care Act that emphasizes the importance of quality child care focused on key factors like safety, well-being, inclusion, and child development.

Our program is child-centred, with significant parental involvement to ensure consistency is achieved at home and at the center to benefit the child most. At our Child Development Center in Edmonton, Canada, we ensure learning through play in a safe, healthy, and stimulating environment.

Indoor Activities

Indoor activities typically focuses on nurturing creativity, cognitive skills, and fine motor development.

  • Storytime
  • Reading books to children or having them browse picture books helps develop language skills and imagination. This activity can also include puppet shows or interactive storytelling, where children participate in the narrative.

  • Arts and Crafts
  • Activities such as drawing, painting, or working with clay encourage creativity and fine motor skills. Projects can be themed around holidays, seasons, or educational concepts like animals or outer space.

  • Music and Dance
  • Introducing children to simple songs, rhythms, and dance moves can enhance their auditory skills and physical coordination. Instruments like tambourines, maracas, or simple drums can be used.

  • Sensory Play
  • This includes activities that stimulate the senses, like playing with sand, water tables, or sensory bins filled with rice or pasta. Sensory play supports cognitive growth, fine motor skills, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Educational Games and Puzzles
  • Games that involve matching, sorting, or assembling encourage cognitive development and logical thinking. Puzzles can be adjusted for different age levels, focusing on shapes, colors, and more complex designs for older children.

Outdoor Activities

Outdoor activities are geared towards promoting physical health, understanding of the natural world, and social skills.

  • Sports and Physical Games:
  • Organized games like tag, soccer, or simple obstacle courses promote physical health and teamwork. These activities help improve children’s gross motor skills and social interactions.

  • Outdoor Creative Play
  • Using outdoor chalk, building forts, or role-playing games in a playhouse or on a playground structure stimulate imagination and social skills through cooperative play with peers.
